Fans of the series, Squid Game on Netflix just got the perfect Christmas present and it is worth sharing some thoughts because watching that series evokes emotions and conversations about money, trust, survival, human greed and compassion.
Again, Squid Game is Life 101 in its rawness and how people with a united front and a focus have such huge potential of taking down an "oppressor" regardless of the dangers....or at least, try than remain sitting ducks or just end like that as a slaughtered herd with no fight because of someone's game and rules.
The plot of the series also speaks to the risk of deciding to "save people" who are not invested in fighting as well as guilt of enjoying something "earned" (ethics and morality is a gist for another day) and the burden of trying to "save the world". If you must sacrifice your happiness in a crooked world, be sure you have a solid plan in leading such deadly mutiny.
The players' mutiny by specific group (X) at the end of #SquidGame2 was inevitable, but it was such a risky idea because not everyone bought in... I see some of the players were still invested in playing the game, regardless. They sat in the same spot despite sounds of the hot gun fight happening and more of them seemed unbothered with whatever was happening as though the success of that mutiny would not have played into thier own freedom. But who could blame them?
Those set of players who decided to fight back had enough of the blood all or they had even stronger motivation because of a hefty cash prize with no guarantees on who will make it across the finish line (a painful truth that not every player caught on yet). After all, no one was coming to save them anyway inside that pit where the rules of the game meant no escape but it seemed some of the players thought of themselves differently.
The mutiny bunch took the fight right to the "management" and it is a good thing someone who had played the game before was there to lead them. It was better to assume that more people would escape with their lives than submitting to a default game of winner takes all but it seemed all for nothing. The number of lives it cost for that prize was too much but the motivation from that money was too strong and fear is always a potent tool of control.
The island remains a mysterious location that is difficult to find and access by outsiders (including the police), and it was left for those trapped inside to fight and find their way out. I think the mutiny would have worked if they had the numbers on their side, but fear and money are always bigger motivations for betrayal, just as they are, a tool for control.... it's life 101. In the world today, i would argue that money and greed are always bigger motivation than morality. Also, people were in that game for different reasons and the reward was always on thier mind even though I am not sure they thought enough about how easy it was to die than finish the game.
A risky mutiny....and poorly planned. Maybe there will be some good in this failed mutiny, maybe this is a waste that Seong Gi-hun would regret because how is he not enjoying the prize money from the first game woth his daughter? Is this survival guilt? Why would anyone want to play this type of deadly game twice?
Maybe, a mutiny did not happen yet, it is someone's imagination playing out. Well, it is fingers crossed, we shall see where this is headed in the next episode or next season.
